Mick and Lyn Brown, Pastors of BackYard Ministries, have been involved in Christian Ministry since the mid 1970s. From 1974 to 1985 Mick was a pivotal leader in music and worship at the O’Connor Methodist (later Uniting) Church. They were at the fore front of worship in the Charismatic Renewal that swept Australia.
In 1986 Mick and Lyn left the worship team of about 30 persons at O’Connor to enter ministry training in the Uniting Church in Australia. They pastored churches for 18 years in Moree and then Menai, New South Wales. In that time much was learned about ministering into a modern and post denominational society.
Mick and Lyn have been involved variously in the Board of Mission Evangelism and Renewal Executive, Aglow, Spiritual Director of 2 Communities in the Walk to Emmaus (Lyn as Lay Director), ‘Praying for Menai’ leader for 7 years, the Georges River Presbytery Mission Strategy Committee, the 2000 Olympics Outreach, Small Groups, Youth leadership and endless musical activities. Mick is a Coachnet International accredited Coach. Lyn is a teacher and is a mother in the faith to many women.
Mick has been in bands since he began guitar aged 12. After High School and University bands, he was a part of ‘Shalom’ and ‘Horizon’, before pursuing solo events and ad hoc bands such as ‘Band from Church’ and lately ‘Band of Brothers’ with two of his sons. Mick and Lyn toured the USA on 2 occasions and the UK once, also appearing on local TV in Chicago and Texas. Mick writes songs, sings, plays, records and generally loves to share Jesus in music and song. However, worship leading is his primary gift. Presently Mick is Dean of Students at Unity College Australia, where he also trains in Communication skills and Christian Worship.
